From one club to the world stage: Sharmila in Vancouver

Sharmila became the first Mauritian to represent the Division at the World Championship of Public Speaking, and her ELIO family could not be prouder.

Every Toastmaster's journey begins in a single club meeting. Sharmila's took her all the way to the World Championship of Public Speaking, at the Toastmasters International Convention in Vancouver, Canada.

She became the first Mauritian to represent the Division on the World Championship stage. It was a historic moment, and one that gave our whole community something to rally behind. Cheering her on were her clubs, the many people she has helped and inspired along the way, and the Toastmasters of Division E, District 114 and District 129.

Standing on that stage is an extraordinary achievement in itself, and we could not be prouder of her.

Sharmila, you didn't just step onto the world stage. You showed everyone watching from home what is possible, and you opened a path for the next generation of Mauritian speakers to follow. Your ELIO family stood behind you every step of the way, and always will.
